Here are a few photographs I’d like to share of the bird and wildlife prints shown as part of ‘A NATURAL HISTORY (Part Two)’ at the Linklater Pavilion in Lewes between the 19th & 27th November 2011.  I had a great week meeting and having conversations with lots of people not only about the work but also shared interests in birds, wildlife and the local area.  Although I spent most of the time at the Linklater I did manage to skive off for an hour or so on the Thursday  to see the wonderful short-eared owls at Rodmell which was fantastic.

Thanks  to everyone who managed to make it to the show both during the week and to the preview on evening of the 18th November.  It was a lovely evening with the Oyster Project providing the bar and music and I hope that everyone who came managed to see the talks given by Michael Blencowe of the Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Work on ‘A NATURAL HISTORY (Part Three)’ has already begun and will be shown later in the year.

I’m pleased to let you know that ‘A Natural History (Part Two)‘ is being shown from the 19th -27th November 2011 at the fabulous Linklater Pavilion, Railway Lane, Lewes, BN7 2AQ. This second exhibition includes new silk-screen and giclée prints that are not only inspired by the diverse wildlife we often see in the British countryside but also includes birds which are very rarely seen in Britain or who are sadly extinct.

In addition to the new bird prints that I have made there will also be a small selection of the limited edition prints from ‘A Natural History’ (Part One)’ together with illustrations that have been used to accompany Michael Blencowe’s fantastic wildlife features in Viva LewesMichael will also be giving an illustrated talk (with sound effects!) about the natural history of all the species represented in the exhibition.

And one more thing! A blind auction will be held for the first screen print of the edition of ‘Swift (Apus apus)‘ from which all proceeds will be going to the Sussex Wildlife Trust. Those who are familiar with the work of the Sussex Wildlife Trust, and in particular the Lewes Community Wildlife Project, may be familiar with the design which appears on the website and the monthly newsletter.

The preview of a ‘A Natural History (Part Two)’ will be held at the Linklater Pavilion on the Friday 18th November 2011 from 6.00 – 8.00pm. The fabulous Oyster Project will be providing the bar and music.

The exhibition will be open weekdays between 10.00am – 4.30pm and between 10.00am – 5.00pm at the weekends.  Come along if you can make it.  See some art, take a look at an inspirational building and reacquaint yourself with the diverse wildlife that can be found in the heart of Lewes!

Thought that I’d take a break from preparing ‘A Natural History (Part Two)’ to let you know that a selection of screen prints, giclées and greetings cards from ‘A Natural History (Part One)’ can now be seen at Appendage in the vibrant North Laines of Brighton.

Being both a gallery and shop, Appendage sells work from largely British based artists and designers and I am thrilled to have been invited to both show my work there and contribute to the window displays until Christmas.

In addition it’s also great to tell you that Gardener & Cook – two fabulous little shops in Lewes and Tunbridge Wells, are currently stocking the greetings cards!

Appendage can be found at 36, Kensington Gardens, Brighton, BN1 4AL and you can read about them together with the other artists they work with at their blog here.

After having a bit of a break from the print workshop over Summer to concentrate on the new card range and Artwave it’s been great to get back and be a printmaker again!  This has resulted in both  Blackbird (Turdus Merula) and Treecreeper (Certhia familiaris) finally being editioned as hand-printed screenprints.  It seems from speaking to many of the lovely people I met at ‘Art at The Hive‘  that the two birds are favourites with quite a few people so it’s good to have them now to share.

Both can be purchased either unframed (£110.00) , framed (£185.00) or professionally museum mounted (£130.00).

If you are interested in any of these new additions to the ‘A Natural History‘ flock (or just would like to be kept in the loop) then please contact me directly or sign up for the newsletter here!

Image of Viva Lewes September Issue

August has been a very busy month.  Aside from curating ‘Art at The Hive’ in Lewes, The Hives‘ first show for the Artwave Festival, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Viva Lewes to design the cover for their 60th issue. Being their September edition I was interested in doing something around bird migration and swallows seemed to be the ideal bird to concentrate on.

Many people consider the arrival of swallows as being a real indicator of the onset of Spring but maybe don’t necessarily notice their departure come the end of Summer.  By depicting them flying from the shores of the British Isles (namely Seaford Head in Sussex) I wanted to evoke some of the poignancy of the changing of the season.

The cover is now being produced in two sizes of limited edition giclée prints and I will soon be making a screenprinted edition within the month so watch this space!

If you would like more details about prices, dimensions and edition sizes please contact me directly.
